BACKGROUND
In 1991, two individuals shared a passionate vision for helping young men and women achieve their goals. Driven by this dream, Bennie Henry created The Support Group (TSG). The Support Group is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization serving over 3,000 Chicago-area at-risk youth every year. The Support Group offers educational, cultural, and recreational programs with emphasis on increasing community awareness while avoiding gang violence and drug abuse.
The Support Group's initial focus is on academic development. The Support Group's staff and volunteers work directly with students in Chicago Public Schools on a daily basis. The children are tutored in english, math, science and history. Through TSG's program of academic support, personal counseling, and sports camps, we have motivated numerous student athletes to pursue both their college degrees and professional sports careers.
The Support Group's spirit is symbolized by the dedication of eight gifted young men: Juwan Howard, Donne Boyce, Antoine Walker, Glenn Robinson, Sherell Ford, Rashard Griffith, and Michael Finley. In years past, these talented individuals have thrilled college basketball fans with exciting displays of athletic prowess. Today, some of them still delight NBA crowds. However, all eight continue to inspire us by their commitment to the youth of our community as they experience:
